Terms & Conditions

Last updated: August 2026

These Terms & Conditions apply to goods and services supplied by Made to Size (“Made to Size”, “we”, “us” or “our”).

Please read these terms carefully before placing an order. By approving a quotation, approving a final design, paying a deposit or otherwise instructing us to proceed, you agree to these Terms & Conditions.

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

1. About Made to Size

Made to Size designs and supplies made-to-measure furniture and furniture components using CAD design and CNC manufacturing.

Depending on the service selected, we may provide:

The exact goods and services included in your project will be stated in your quotation.

2. Quotations

All quotations are based on the information, measurements, drawings and requirements available to us at the time.

Unless stated otherwise, quotations are valid for 30 days.

A quotation does not constitute acceptance of an order. Your order is confirmed once the final design has been approved, any required deposit has been received and we have confirmed that the project has entered production.

Any work or materials requested outside the agreed quotation may be subject to an additional charge. We will discuss additional costs with you before carrying out additional chargeable work wherever reasonably possible.

3. Measurements

Made-to-measure furniture relies on accurate site measurements.

Where we carry out the site survey and measurements, we are responsible for the accuracy of those measurements, subject to any subsequent alterations to the property or conditions that could not reasonably have been identified during the survey.

Where you, your installer or another third party provides the measurements, you are responsible for ensuring that those measurements are complete and accurate.

We may query measurements that appear unusual or inconsistent, but this does not transfer responsibility for customer-supplied measurements to us.

We cannot accept responsibility for furniture that does not fit because measurements supplied to us were incorrect or incomplete.

If replacement components or alterations are required because of incorrect customer-supplied measurements, additional manufacturing, delivery and other reasonable costs may apply.

4. Final Design Approval

All made-to-measure projects must be approved before production begins.

You are responsible for checking the final drawings carefully, including:

Please raise any questions or requested changes before approving the design.

Once you approve the final design, we will manufacture the furniture based on the approved drawings.

Changes after approval may not be possible once materials have been ordered or manufacturing has begun. Where changes are possible, additional design, material and manufacturing costs may apply.

5. CAD Drawings & Visual Representations

CAD drawings, renders, illustrations, photographs and samples are intended to help communicate the design.

While we make every effort to represent the finished furniture accurately, screen colours, lighting, material samples and digital renders may differ slightly from the finished product.

Unless specifically stated otherwise, renders should therefore be treated as a visual representation rather than a photographic guarantee of colour or appearance.

Dimensions and specifications stated on the approved technical drawings take precedence over illustrative images.

6. Materials

We use furniture-grade materials selected according to the requirements of each project.

Natural materials such as plywood and timber can vary in colour, grain, pattern and appearance. These variations are an inherent characteristic of the material and are not normally considered defects.

Manufactured sheet materials may also have minor variations between production batches.

Where painted or pre-finished materials are supplied, slight differences in colour or sheen can occur between batches or under different lighting conditions.

7. Manufacturing Tolerances

Our furniture components are precision manufactured using CNC machinery.

However, furniture installation involves real buildings, materials and finishes, and very small tolerances are sometimes necessary.

Minor dimensional variations that do not materially affect the appearance, installation or intended function of the furniture will not normally be considered defects.

8. Existing Walls, Floors & Ceilings

Buildings are rarely perfectly straight, level or square.

Our furniture may therefore incorporate scribe panels, fillers, installation gaps, adjustable components or other allowances to accommodate variations in walls, floors and ceilings.

These are a normal part of fitted furniture design and installation.

Significant movement, damp, structural problems or changes to the property after measurements have been taken may affect the fit of the furniture and are outside our control.

9. Ventilation, Damp & Property Conditions

Where appropriate, we may incorporate ventilation gaps, voids or open-backed sections into the furniture design.

However, our furniture is not intended to remedy existing damp, condensation, mould, water ingress or structural problems within a property.

You should tell us about any known damp, moisture, ventilation or structural issues before the design is approved.

We cannot accept responsibility for damage to furniture caused by pre-existing or subsequently developing damp, excessive moisture, leaks, condensation, structural movement or unsuitable environmental conditions.

10. Electrical, Plumbing & Other Services

Unless specifically included in your quotation, our service does not include electrical, plumbing, gas or other specialist building work.

The customer is responsible for arranging appropriately qualified tradespeople where such work is required.

Please tell us about any known concealed pipes, cables, heating systems or other services within the installation area.

We will take reasonable care when installing furniture but cannot be responsible for concealed services that could not reasonably have been identified before work began.

11. Lead Times

Our typical production lead time is 2–4 weeks from final design approval and receipt of the required deposit.

Any lead time provided is an estimate unless we have expressly agreed a fixed completion or delivery date in writing.

We will make reasonable efforts to meet estimated dates but occasionally delays can occur due to circumstances outside our reasonable control, including material availability, supplier delays, manufacturing issues, transport disruption or events beyond our control.

If a significant delay occurs, we will keep you informed.

12. Payment

Unless otherwise stated in your quotation, a 50% deposit is payable following final design approval and before production begins.

The remaining balance will be payable in accordance with the payment schedule shown on your quotation or invoice.

For supply-only projects, the balance is required before production begins.

For projects installed by us, the balance will normally be due following completion of the agreed installation work.

Any different payment arrangement will be clearly stated on your quotation or invoice.

Ownership of supplied goods remains with Made to Size until payment for those goods has been received in full, to the extent permitted by law.

13. Cancellation & Bespoke Goods

Our furniture is made specifically to the measurements, design and requirements of each individual project.

Because made-to-measure and personalised goods are produced specifically for you, the usual change-of-mind cancellation rights applicable to many distance purchases may not apply to those bespoke goods.

Before production begins, please contact us as soon as possible if you wish to cancel your order.

If you cancel after design work has been completed, materials have been ordered or manufacturing has begun, we may deduct or charge reasonable costs and losses that we have actually incurred as a result of the cancellation, where permitted by law.

We will explain any such costs where applicable.

Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights where goods are faulty, not as described or otherwise do not conform to the contract.

14. Returns

Because our furniture and components are made to your individual specifications, we are generally unable to accept returns simply because you change your mind, subject to your statutory rights.

This does not affect your rights where goods are faulty, damaged, not as described or otherwise do not conform to the contract.

If you believe there is a problem with your order, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible so that we can investigate.

Please do not modify, cut, paint or install a component that you believe is incorrect or defective before contacting us where it is reasonably possible to avoid doing so.

15. Delivery

Delivery arrangements and charges will be confirmed in your quotation.

You are responsible for ensuring reasonable access to the delivery address and telling us in advance about anything that may affect delivery, including:

Someone responsible should be available to receive and inspect the delivery unless alternative arrangements have been agreed.

16. Checking Your Delivery

Please check your order as soon as reasonably possible after delivery.

If packaging or components appear to have been damaged during transport, please photograph the damage and contact us promptly.

If anything appears to be missing, incorrect or damaged, please provide photographs and details so that we can investigate.

Reporting problems promptly makes it easier for us to identify what has happened and resolve the issue.

Your statutory rights are not affected if a fault is discovered later.

17. Storage Before Installation

Furniture components should be stored indoors in a dry, reasonably heated and ventilated environment and should be protected from moisture and physical damage.

Components should not be stored outside, in damp garages, sheds or other unsuitable environments.

We cannot accept responsibility for deterioration, swelling, warping or other damage caused by unsuitable storage after delivery.

18. Installation by Made to Size

Where installation is included in your quotation, we will carry out the agreed installation service with reasonable care and skill.

The installation area should be reasonably clear and accessible before we arrive.

We will take reasonable precautions to protect floors and surrounding areas and will keep disruption to a practical minimum.

Some drilling, cutting, sanding and other normal installation work will be required.

Wherever practical, significant cutting will be undertaken outside.

19. Installation by the Customer or a Third Party

Where furniture is supplied for self-installation or installation by another tradesperson, responsibility for the installation rests with the person carrying out that work.

Installation should be undertaken by someone with suitable skills, tools and experience for the project.

We cannot accept responsibility for damage, poor fit or defects caused by:

If you or your installer believes a component is incorrect, please contact us before cutting, drilling, modifying or permanently installing it.

20. Painting & Finishing by Others

Where furniture is supplied unfinished or primed for painting by the customer or another tradesperson, the final decorative finish is outside our control.

The furniture should be prepared and painted using suitable products and methods.

We cannot accept responsibility for problems caused by incorrect preparation, unsuitable paint products, excessive moisture, insufficient drying time or poor application.

Any manufacturer instructions supplied with coatings or materials should be followed.

21. Skirting Boards, Cornices & Existing Features

Where existing skirting, cornices, mouldings or other architectural features are retained, the furniture may be designed and installed around them.

Where we agree to remove or alter existing features, we will take reasonable care. However, older or previously installed materials can sometimes be brittle, damaged or difficult to remove without marking.

We will discuss any significant concerns identified before proceeding wherever reasonably possible.

22. Guarantees

We stand behind the quality of our furniture and workmanship.

Our manufactured furniture components are guaranteed for 5 years against defects in materials and manufacturing.

Where installation is carried out by Made to Size, our installation workmanship is guaranteed for 2 years.

If a defect covered by our guarantee occurs, we will assess the issue and, where appropriate, repair or replace the affected component or rectify our installation work.

Our guarantee does not cover problems caused by:

This guarantee is provided in addition to your statutory rights and does not replace or restrict those rights.

23. Hardware & Third-Party Products

Hardware and other products manufactured by third parties may be covered by their own manufacturer's warranty.

Where appropriate, we will assist with a legitimate warranty claim relating to hardware we have supplied.

Manufacturer warranties are separate from, and do not affect, your statutory rights against us where applicable.

24. Faults & Problems

If you believe there is a fault with your furniture, please contact us with:

We may need to inspect the furniture or request additional photographs before determining the appropriate solution.

Where we are responsible for a fault, we will provide the remedy required by applicable consumer law, which may include repair, replacement, repeat performance, price reduction or refund depending on the circumstances.

25. Customer-Supplied Designs

Where you provide a design, drawing or specification, you are responsible for ensuring you have the right to use it and that the information supplied is accurate.

We may make technical adjustments where necessary for manufacturing or installation and will identify material design changes for approval where appropriate.

26. Design Ownership

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, drawings, CAD models, manufacturing files, CNC files and other technical information created by Made to Size remain our intellectual property.

Drawings supplied to you may be used for the purpose of understanding, approving and installing the furniture purchased from us.

They may not be reproduced commercially, supplied to another manufacturer for production or used to manufacture copies of our designs without our written permission.

27. Photographs

We may occasionally ask for permission to photograph completed projects for our portfolio, website or social media.

We will respect your privacy and will not publish photographs of your home where you have asked us not to do so.

Where separate consent is required, we will request it.

28. Our Responsibility

We are responsible for foreseeable loss or damage caused by our failure to comply with our contract or by our failure to exercise reasonable care and skill.

We are not responsible for losses that are not a foreseeable consequence of our breach, subject always to applicable law.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

Nothing in these terms excludes or restricts a consumer's statutory rights.

29. Trade Customers

Where you purchase from Made to Size wholly or mainly for purposes relating to your trade, business, craft or profession, you are purchasing as a business customer rather than a consumer.

Certain consumer protections referred to in these terms may therefore not apply.

Trade customers are responsible for checking measurements, drawings and supplied components before installation and for carrying out installation competently and safely.

Where you install our products for your own customer, the contract between you and your customer is separate from your contract with Made to Size.

30. Events Outside Our Control

We will not be responsible for delays or failure to perform our obligations where caused by circumstances outside our reasonable control.

These may include severe weather, transport disruption, supplier failure, shortages of materials, machinery breakdown, industrial action or other unforeseen events.

Where such an event affects your project, we will contact you as soon as reasonably possible and take reasonable steps to minimise the disruption.

31. Complaints

We want every project to be completed to a high standard.

If you are unhappy with any aspect of our goods or service, please contact us in the first instance so that we have an opportunity to investigate and resolve the issue.

Please provide your order details and as much information as possible about the problem.

32. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time.

The terms that apply to your project will be those provided or made available to you when your order is placed, unless a change is subsequently agreed between us in writing.

33. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you may also benefit from mandatory rights available under the laws applicable where you live.

Nothing in these terms affects any rights you have under applicable consumer law.
