FAQs
It starts with your space and what you would like to achieve. Once we have the measurements and project details, we create your furniture in 3D CAD so you can see exactly how it will look and fit.
Once the design is approved, your furniture goes into production. Each component is precisely CNC cut, prepared and labelled, ready for delivery or installation.
Yes. Every project is designed in 3D CAD before it goes into production.
You’ll receive drawings showing the design, dimensions and layout, giving you the opportunity to make changes before approving it for manufacture.
That’s completely normal, particularly in older properties.
Our furniture is designed with installation allowances and scribe panels where required. These can be trimmed during installation to follow the walls, floors and ceilings, giving the furniture a neat, fitted finish.
Yes. Because everything is made to measure, we can design around sockets, switches, pipework, chimney breasts and other features within the room.
We’ll just need accurate measurements and photographs so these can be considered during the design stage.
We use high-quality, furniture-grade sheet materials selected for the individual project. This includes Finsa Hidrofugi MDF and Birch plywood, along with quality hardware and fixings.
Yes. Depending on the project, furniture can be supplied unfinished, pre-primed or fully finished.
If you’re painting the furniture yourself, we can supply it pre-primed and ready for its top coats.
Yes, where required.
Older properties in particular can benefit from airflow behind fitted furniture. We can incorporate ventilation gaps and voids into the design, and in some situations furniture can be designed without a full back panel so the wall remains exposed.
We’ll consider this as part of the design process.
Yes. If you would prefer us to take care of the complete project, we can arrange installation for you.
Alternatively, the furniture can be supplied ready for installation by you or your chosen tradesperson.
Most projects can be installed within 1–2 days.
Because the furniture is designed precisely in CAD and the majority of the cutting and preparation is completed before we arrive, there is much less work to carry out in your home.
Very little. Around 99% of the cutting is completed by CNC before installation.
The main cutting required on site is usually limited to scribe panels and small adjustments needed to achieve a precise fit. These cuts are made outside.
We protect the working area, keep things tidy throughout the installation and vacuum before we leave. Waste and packaging from our work is taken away with us.
There will inevitably be some noise from drills, drivers and occasional cutting, but we keep this to a minimum.
If we know a particularly noisy part of the installation is coming up, we’ll let you know beforehand.
Not necessarily. Furniture can often be designed and fitted around existing skirting, or the skirting can be removed where appropriate.
In period properties, we will often recommend retaining original skirting where possible. This preserves the original features of the room and means they remain intact should the furniture ever be removed in the future.
No. We just need enough clear space to safely screw the components together and install the furniture.
Smaller belongings should be removed from the immediate working area, but larger pieces of furniture can usually remain in the room. We can also help move larger items where necessary.
Of course. Protecting the room is one of the first things we do when we arrive.
We remove our shoes before entering your home and put suitable floor protection down before beginning the installation.
If there are existing sockets where the furniture is being installed we can usually fit them to the back of the unit or make a cut out so you can still access it. This can be discussed in the design process.
If the sockets need moving to a new location this will need to be carried out by a qualified electrician.
Yes. Made to Size furniture has been designed specifically to make installation as straightforward as possible.
Components are precisely CNC cut, pre-drilled where required and clearly labelled. You’ll also receive drawings to help identify where everything goes.
If you’re a confident DIYer with the appropriate tools, fitting your own made-to-measure furniture is absolutely possible.
Absolutely. A big part of what we do is helping tradespeople offer bespoke fitted furniture without having to design and manufacture every project themselves.
You take care of your customer and the installation; we can take care of the CAD design, technical details and CNC-cut components.
Yes. If you already have a clear design, sketch or CAD drawing, send it over and we can use it as the starting point for your project.
We’ll still check the details and produce the information required for manufacture.
The exact tools will depend on the project, but generally you’ll need a drill/driver, spirit level, tape measure, pencil, jigsaw, sand paper and appropriate PPE.
Most of the complicated cutting and machining has already been done for you.
The less obvious parts are labled and supplied with drawings so you can easily identify what goes where.
The furniture is designed so that the components locate accurately during assembly, helping you achieve a square and precise installation.
Yes. The required furniture fixings and hardware are supplied with your order unless otherwise stated.
Absolutely. The components come unfinished, for an additional cost we can supply your furniture pre-primed so it is ready for its top coats once installed.
We have a breif guide to painting MDF furniture on the materials page.
Accurate measurements are essential for made-to-measure furniture, so we provide guidance on what we need before the design begins.
If you are supplying your own measurements, it’s important to check them carefully before approving the final design. We’ll highlight anything that looks unusual or requires clarification, but the person providing the measurements is ultimately responsible for their accuracy.
If you’re unsure about measuring your space, speak to us before ordering and we can discuss the best approach.
Our typical lead time is 2–4 weeks from final design approval.
Depending on the size of the project and our current production schedule, we may be able to complete your order sooner.
Yes. Furniture can be supplied ready for installation, with components carefully prepared, labelled and packed for the project.
Delivery arrangements and costs will depend on the size of the order and delivery location and will be confirmed as part of your quotation.
Your quotation will clearly set out exactly what is included.
Depending on the service you choose, this may include design and CAD drawings, CNC-cut furniture components, fixings and hardware, finishing, delivery and installation.
This means you’ll know exactly what you’re paying for before the project goes into production.
If we are installing your project-
Once your design has been finalised and approved, we’ll send an invoice for a 50% deposit to confirm your order and begin production.
The remaining balance is due once your furniture has been installed.
If we are only supplying-
Once your design has been finalised and approved, full payment is required before the project goes into production.
Please check your final drawings carefully before approving them.
Once a design has been approved and your furniture has entered production, changes may not be possible as components may already have been ordered or manufactured.
If you do need to make a change, contact us as soon as possible and we’ll let you know what can be done.
If there is an issue with any component supplied by us, contact us as soon as possible with photographs and details of the problem.
We’ll assess what has happened and work with you to resolve it as quickly as possible.
